'Kinky Boots' Steals the Show at Tony Awards

The Broadway musical Kinky Boots has won six Tony awards, including the top award of best musical in American theater.



1980s pop star Cyndi Lauper won best score for Kinky Boots, her first Broadway musical. The adaptation of a British film about a struggling shoe factory that reinvents itself by making boots for drag queens received 13 nominations for Sunday's awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, starring Sigourney Weaver and David Hyde Pierce, won the Tony for best play.

Tracy Letts won the Tony for best actor in a play for his performance in the revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, while Cicely Tyson won the award for best actress in a play for her role in the revival of The Trip to Bountiful.

Pippin won the award for best revival of a musical, with Pippin star Patina Miller winning the Tony for best leading actress in a musical.
