Massive Fire in Thailand Destroys Department Store

Thailand firefighters have been battling a massive department store fire overnight on the southern resort island of Phuket.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the huge fire did force the evacuation of scores of people living nearby.

Thai media reported at least 1,000 employees and shoppers were inside the store, called SuperCheap, when the fire broke out at 9:40 pm local time. At least 300 firefighters were dispatched to fight the blaze.

Authorities estimate the damages will run into the millions of dollars. The cause is under investigation.
