Obama Congratulates Christie, Reelected Governor of New Jersey

U.S. President Barack Obama has telephoned congratulations to Republican Chris Christie, who was reelected governor of the northeastern state of New Jersey by a landslide on Tuesday.

Christie won support from both liberals and conservatives, leaving some political observers to tout him as an ideal Republican presidential candidate in 2016.

Christie became a national figure when Superstorm Sandy devastated his state last year. He pleased liberals but angered some conservatives when he became friendly with President Obama in working to clean up storm damage.

Wednesday night, Mr. Obama visited a synagogue in Dallas, Texas to thank volunteers who are helping people figure out how to buy insurance under the new Affordable Care Act.

Mr. Obama again promised that the technical problems plaguing the so-called Obamacare website are being fixed, and that the site should be running smoothly by the end of the month.

Other winners in Tuesday's night's elections include Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who beat conservative Tea Party Republican Ken Cuccinelli as governor of Virginia, and Bill de Blasio, who will be New York City's first Democratic mayor in more than 20 years.
