Obama Suffers Basketball Injury; Receives 12 Stitches

The White House says President Barack Obama has received 12 stitches in his lip after he was accidentally elbowed in the face during a basketball game.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the president was inadvertently hit with an opposing player's elbow on Friday while playing with friends and family. The incident happened at Fort McNair, a U.S. military post in the Washington area.

Gibbs says President Obama received the stitches in the doctor's office on the ground floor of the White House and was given a local anesthetic during the procedure. Mr. Obama is an avid basketball fan.
