Pirates Free Thai Oil Tanker After Cargo Theft

A Thai oil tanker that disappeared last week on a voyage from Singapore to Indonesia has reappeared with its crew safe, but the cargo stolen.

The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) said Monday that the MT Grapin 4 with 14 crew members on board arrived at Sri Racha Port in Thailand on Sunday.

The diesel oil tanker had lost contact with its owner after departing Singapore Tuesday on its way to Indonesia's Kalimantan, on Borneo island.

The IMB said pirates hijacked the ship, stole its oil and damaged its communications equipment before releasing it.
