7 Killed in Suicide Blast in Baghdad

Iraqi municipality workers clean the scene of a suicide attack in Baghdad's western Eskan neighborhood, Iraq, Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016. A suicide bomber killed several people who were setting up tents on Sunday ahead of a major Shi'ite religious observance next month, officials said.

Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber has blown himself up in Baghdad, killing seven people and wounding 19.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast Sunday in the Iskan neighborhood, a mostly Shi'ite district.

However, Islamic State — a Sunni group — considers Iraq's Shi'ite majority to be apostates and regularly targets them with bombings in crowded areas of Baghdad.

Iraqi forces, backed by coalition airstrikes, have been fighting Islamic State militants since they captured large parts of Iraq more than two years ago.
