Pakistan military officials say a suspected U.S. drone has strike killed at least eight militants suspects in the country's northwest near the border with Afghanistan.
The strike took place Wednesday in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan tribal district.
Officials say six locals and two foreigners were killed in the strike, although the death toll could not be independently verified as journalists are not allowed in the area.
The United States has been pressing Pakistan to tackle militant strongholds in the northwest. Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal areas on the Afghan border have served as a hideout for militants ranging from the Taliban to al-Qaida and including home grown rebels such as Tehreek-e-Taliban (Pakistan) and foreign fighters such as Uzbeks and Uighurs.
For its part, the Pakistan military says it has killed hundreds of suspected militants since launching an offensive there in June.
