Donald Trump is now the 45th president of the United States. After swearing his allegiance to the Constitution in a ceremony at the US Capitol Friday, Trump delivered a 16-minute address stressing his campaign theme - "make America great again." The 70-year-old president, holding elective office for the first time in his life, told a crowd of several hundred thousand people at the National Mall that his administration will transfer power away from Washington and return it to the American people.

Among the documents signed earlier in the day by new President Donald Trump was a bill allowing retired General James Mattis to serve as Defense Secretary. Last week congress cleared the way for Mattis' quick confirmation by endorsing a waiver that would allow him to lead the Pentagon despite retiring from active duty as a Marine general only in 2013.
