U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (C) takes a tour of the Foton Cummins Engine plant in Beijing, Feb. 15, 2014.
The United States and China have issued a joint statement pledging to work together to lessen the impact of climate change and air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels.

The pledge was issued following a visit to Beijing by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Saturday's statement said Washington and Beijing have agreed to devote "significant effort and resources" to limit greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy efficiency in buildings and industry.

The two countries plan to work together within the vehicle of the U.S.-China Climate Change Working Group, which was launched last year.
