Violence and Uncertainty Challenge Afghan Elections

Voters across Afghanistan will go to the polls April 5th in an election that should pave the way for the nation’s first-ever peaceful, democratic transfer of power. The constitution bans Afghan President Hamid Karzai from seeking a third term, but the election comes amid a raging insurgency and uncertainty over whether U.S. and NATO troops will stay in the country after 2014.
