Following a steady campaign of air strikes and a determined ground assault by Kurdish fighters in Syria, the Islamic State has finally lost its grip on one of its most high-profile objectives - the town of Kobani. But despite what appears to have been a costly defeat, the group is refusing to give up, sending in more fighters and supplies.
