Cheney Starts Middle East Tour

Vice President Dick Cheney is in the Egyptian capital, at the start of a Mideast tour that will include visits to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

Cheney aides say the vice president plans to meet Tuesday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, before traveling to Kuwait.

A spokeswoman for the vice president said he will pay respects later this week to Kuwait's royal family, following the death of Kuwaiti Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah early Sunday.

The vice president is expected to focus on regional security and counter-terrorism efforts in Cairo and Riyadh.

Last month, Mr. Cheney canceled visits to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, so he could return home to cast a tie-breaking vote in the U.S. Senate.
