Marines in Iraq Destroy Truck Bomb Near Fallujah, Militants Kill 13 People in Baghdad

The U.S. military in Iraq says U.S. fighter jets have destroyed a truck rigged with explosives near Fallujah, while Iraqi police say militants have killed at least 13 people in Baghdad.

The military says the truck bomb was discovered Friday after questioning a militant detained near Fallujah.

In Baghdad Saturday, police say gunmen opened fire on a vehicle driving through a Sunni and Shi'ite neighborhood, in southwestern Bayaa district, killing four of the seven people in the vehicle, including at least one Iraqi humanitarian worker.

Authorities say a roadside bomb in southern Zafaraniyah district exploded near a group of street cleaners, killing one person and wounding eight others.

A series of mortar rounds slammed into the al-Risala district in southern Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 10 others.

And police said in a nearby Baghdad district, Saydiyah, unidentified gunmen killed five people and wounded one when the attackers opened fire on a vehicle.

Also, the U.S. military says coalition forces captured 17 suspected militants during a series of overnight raids targeting al-Qaida in Iraq.

On Friday, the U.S. military said Coalition forces in Iraq detained four suspected members of a terror cell that used sophisticated weaponry from Iran.

The military said the terror cell is known for helping smuggle weapons - including sophisticated roadside bombs - from Iran into Iraq.
