Agassi Reaches Semifinals of Rogers Cup Hard-court Tennis Tournament

American tennis veteran Andre Agassi has reached the semifinals of the Rogers Cup hard-court tennis tournament in Montreal by winning a rain-delayed match against Gaston Gaudio of Argentina.

The match started Friday night, but had to be delayed because of rain. When play resumed under windy conditions Saturday, Agassi was able to win easily, 6-3, 6-4. In the semifinals, Agassi plays Montreal native Greg Rusedski, a straight-set winner over Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia (6-3, 6-4).

The other semifinal has French Open champion Rafael Nadal of Spain taking on Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The Rogers Cup is one of several hard-court events that players are using to prepare for the last major tournament of the year, the U.S. Open, which starts August 29 in New York.
