Baghdad Suicide Bomb Kills 7

A suicide car bomb in the Iraqi capital has killed seven people and wounded at least 18 others.

Iraqi authorities say the blast struck the Shi'ite neighborhood of Kadhimiyah in northern Baghdad early Sunday. They say the attacker blew himself up at a police checkpoint near an intelligence service base. Most of those killed were police officers.

The area is also home to an important Shi'ite shrine.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Violence in Iraq has escalated in recent weeks, raising concern of a return to widespread sectarian attacks.
