Body Found in Plane's Wheel Well at Dulles Near Washington

Airport officials near Washington say the body of a man has been discovered in the wheel well of a South African Airways plane.

Authorities say the body was found in the Airbus A340 Saturday afternoon at a remote parking area of Dulles International Airport, which serves Washington.

The flight, which originated in Johannesburg with a stop in Dakar, had arrived a few days earlier.

The cause of death has not been determined. The unidentified body has been turned over to the local (Fairfax County) medical examiner's office.

The discovery of the body did not alter operations of the terminals or runways at Dulles, a major international flight gateway in northern Virginia.

A plane's landing gear is retracted into the wheel well during flight.
