Afghan authorities say a roadside bomb has wounded a member of President Hamid Karzai's High Peace Council, which he appointed to negotiate peace with insurgents.
Authorities said Sunday's blast struck a vehicle carrying Fazil Ahmad in the eastern province of Ghazni, wounding him and several other passengers and killing the driver. Ahmad is one of about 70 members of Afghanistan's High Peace Council.
Elsewhere, local officials said Afghan security forces killed 18 Taliban militants in an operation in the northern province of Jawzjan on Saturday. They said at least one of those killed was a Taliban "shadow" provincial governor.
Also Sunday, the Afghan defense ministry reported the deaths of 14 soldiers in attacks by militants around the country in the previous two days.
