Danger Easing From California Wildfires

Fire engulfs a structure during a wildfire May 15, 2014, in Escondido, California.

In southern California, the danger is easing as firefighters work to bring multiple wildfires under control.

The blazes, located in and around San Diego, erupted earlier this week, forcing thousands of people from their homes.

The cities of Carlsbad and San Marcos - north of San Diego - have been hit hard, with fires also breaking out at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.

Officials say some evacuated residents were allowed to return home on Friday.

The fires destroyed at least eight houses and an 18-unit apartment building. Officials reported at least one death after firefighters found a badly-burned body in a transient camp in Carlsbad.
