Police and United Nations security forces took to the streets of Port-au-Prince on Monday as thousands of Haitians demonstrated against the government of President Michel Martelly.

The demonstration came on the anniversary of the 1991 ousting of then-President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Aristide's supporters derided the current government under a heavy police presence as they made their way through Port-au-Prince.

The protesters called for the parliament to put Martelly on trial for alleged corruption.

Martelly has also been under mounting international pressure to hold overdue elections needed to fill one-third of Haiti's 30-member Senate and dozens of municipal posts.
