Dozens of Bangladeshis Missing After Boat Sinks

An overloaded fishing boat carrying migrants to Malaysia sank in strong currents off the coast of Bangladesh dozens are reported missing.

More than 70 people were heading out to sea when their boat sank Thursday about 2.5 kilometers offshore.

Emergency workers rescued about 32 passengers in the Bay of Bengal but the rest remain missing.

Thousands of poor Bangladeshis and ethnic Rohingya refugees from Myanmar try to migrate to Malaysia every year on a perilous, sometimes fatal, journey.

Rights groups say thousands have perished along the way and thousands more have fallen into the hands of people-traffickers.
