Former Pakistani President Summoned to Court

Pakistan's top court has ordered former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to appear Tuesday over allegations of treason.

The court is responding to complaints that Musharraf committed treason by suspending the constitution and firing top judges in 2007.

Musharraf seized power in a military coup in 1999 but was forced to step down in 2008 under threat of impeachment. He lived in self-imposed exile for about four years before returning to Pakistan late last month with plans to run for parliament in general elections next month.
