Greek police have captured one of the country's most wanted fugitives and terror suspects after a shootout in Athens that left a policeman and two tourists wounded.
Far-left extremist Nikos Maziotis was seriously wounded in the gunfight with police and has undergone surgery in an Athens hospital.
Police spotted Maziotis in a crowded downtown district Wednesday. They say he was wearing a wig and carried a false identification card.
Maziotis was a top member of the defunct militant group Revolutionary Struggle. The group was responsible for firing a rocket at the U.S. Embassy in Athens in 2007. The attack caused minor damage and no injuries.
Maziotis was arrested in 2010, but was soon released and immediately disappeared.
Police suspect he has been responsible for several crimes, including an April bomb blast outside the Bank of Athens. No one was hurt.
