Guinea Concert Stampede Kills 33

People gather as they await news of friends and family, at a hospital entrance, after a stampede took place Tuesday, during a rap concert, in the city of Conakry, Guinea, July 30, 2014.

Guinean President Alpha Conde has declared a week of mourning after a stampede at a rap concert left at least 33 people dead.

The incident occurred late Tuesday on a beach in Conakry where thousands of people had gathered for the concert to celebrate the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Witnesses say the dead include several children. Reports indicate the stampede was caused by large numbers of people trying to exit through a small gate.

A statement from the presidency called the incident a "tragic drama," but did not give a death toll.

The government said it is investigating.
