Last month's riots in Baltimore, Maryland, highlighted deep socio-economic problems afflicting many post-industrial U.S. cities. Two African-American women who grew up in West Baltimore, epicenter of the unrest, spoke with VOA's Jeff Swicord about the area’s rich history, the rioting’s impact and their hopes for a civic turnaround.
