Kerry: Shutdown Does Not Change US Commitment to Asia

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the shutdown of the U.S. government is a "momentary episode" and does not change Washington's commitment to Asia.

Speaking to reporters on the Indonesian island of Bali, Kerry vowed Saturday that the United States will continue to fulfill its responsibilities during the partial shutdown.

Kerry is in Bali for the annual meeting next week of 21 Pacific-Rim leaders. U.S. President Barack Obama had planned to attend, but canceled his travel plans to remain in Washington and deal with the shutdown.
