Kosovo FM Makes First-Ever Official Visit to Serbia

Kosovo's foreign minister, Enver Hoxhaj, has made what he calls a historic first-ever official visit to Serbia for European Union-sponsored talks.

This is the first time Kosovo's top diplomat has gone to Belgrade since Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008.

The Serbs still do not recognize an independent Kosovo.

Hoxhaj says his country is ready to open a dialogue with Serbia which he says should result in a peace treaty that includes recognition.

He says this would open the door to such major achievements as United Nations membership.

Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati was also in Belgrade Thursday. Ties between Albania and Serbia have been chilly recently and were set back even further when violence broke out at a football match between national teams last week in Belgrade.

Bushati said affairs of state cannot be ruled by hooliganism.
