Pizza delivery giant Domino’s is hoping delivery drones will attract customers and help the bottom line.
Domino’s in New Zealand announced it wants to launch “the first commercial drone delivery service in the world” powered by a U.S. drone company, Flirtey.

If a few regulatory hurdles are cleared, New Zealanders will be able to order pizza using their phones and have it delivered by a drone flying some 61 meters off the ground.
In a video released by the company, a test drone is seen hovering over executives and the New Zealand transport minister as a box containing two pizzas is lowered to them.
“The use of drones as a delivery method is designed to work alongside Domino’s current delivery methods and will be fully integrated into online ordering and GPS systems,” according to the Domino’s Pizza Enterprises website.
New Zealand currently required all drones to be in sight at all times, but Domino’s hopes that will change by the end of the year, allowing the first commercial drone deliveries.
“We’ve always said that it doesn’t make sense to have a two-ton machine delivering a 2-kilogram order,” Domino’s Group CEO Don Meij said in a statement.
