Migrant Arrivals in Italy Soar as Dangers Increase in Libya

The number of migrants arriving in Italy from North Africa more than doubled from April to May, according to the latest figures from the European Union. EU officials say the sharp rise was not caused by the closure of the route further east through Greece and the Balkans, but rather by an increase in migrants traveling from across Africa.
