Stadium Collapse Kills 2 in Brazil

Two workers were killed when a crane collapsed Wednesday at the stadium slated to host the opening match of next year's World Cup of soccer in Brazil, casting yet another shadow on the country’s preparations.

Construction workers had been racing to finish the stadium in São Paulo, Brazil's biggest city, prior to a December deadline imposed by world soccer body FIFA.

Brazil’s preparations to host the event have been plagued by delays, accidents, cost overruns, and public anger over government waste that contributed to massive nationwide street protests last year.

FIFA set a strict December 31 deadline for completing all 12 host venues amid fears Brazil will struggle to be totally ready.
