Volcano Erupts in Indonesia, 6 Killed

Mount Rokatenda is seen spewing volcanic material on Palue island, Indonesia, August 11, 2013.

A volcano in Indonesia erupted Saturday, spewing ash into the sky and gushing hot lava that killed six people sleeping on a beach.

The Mount Rokatenda volcano on Palue island has already prompted the evacuation of at least 2,000 people.

Indonesian officials say Saturday's victims included three adults and at least two children.

Indonesia is prone to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes because of its location along the "Ring of Fire" - a series of fault lines encircling the Pacific Ocean.
