By the Numbers: Climbing Mount Everest

The climbing season for Mount Everest recently ended, following the return of colder weather and hurricane-force winds at the world’s highest peak.
This year was the deadliest climbing season since 2015, and images of a traffic jam of climbers trying to reach Everest's summit renewed questions about how to manage dangerous overcrowding on the peak. Some have called for a limit on the number of climbing permits issued or tougher standards for climbers and guides.
