In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, filmmaker David Yates recreates the on-screen magical world we came to love in the Harry Potter franchise but without its iconic characters. Renowned Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay, introducing the magical society of New York City, an ocean away from Hogwart's School of Wizardry and long before the story of 'the boy who lived' unfolded. It dominated the box office this weekend, debuting at $75 million dollars. So far most of the movie-goers have been adults who grew up with the Harry Potter book series and subsequent films. Nevertheless, the studio is also banking on younger crowds once schools close for the holidays. VOA’s Penelope Poulou has more.
