NHL: Rangers Edge Flyers, Secure Playoff Spot

update

The New York Rangers secured a spot in the National Hockey League playoffs with a 3-2 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night.

Rangers goalie Kevin Weekes made 21 saves in regulation, as well as a key save in the shootout as New York earned its first playoff spot since 1997. It was the longest active playoff drought in the N.H.L.

In other N.H.L. games, the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 5-3. It was Montreal's seventh consecutive win, and its second straight over the Bruins since a 2-0 victory last Saturday that knocked Boston out of the playoff hunt.

The Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-4 in a shootout, while the Anaheim Mighty Ducks routed the Los Angeles Kings 6-2 for their seventh straight home win.
