Everest Tragedy Highlights Plight of Sherpas

At least four people have died on Mt. Everest this week — three of them amateur climbers, and one a Sherpa mountain guide. Dozens of Sherpas have lost their lives guiding foreigners to the summit of the world's tallest mountain since 1953, when a New Zealander and a local Sherpa made the first ascent on Everest. The son of the first Sherpa to reach the top is slamming the mountain-climbing industry for exploiting Sherpas who risk their lives for a pittance. VOA's Penelope Poulou has more.
