Unknown gunmen on motorcycles Saturday fired on a Shi'ite Muslim religious congregation in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, killing at least five people and wounding several others.

Eyewitnesses told reporters the attackers managed to flee the scene. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the bloodshed in the country's largest city and commercial hub.

The attack came days after three suicide bombers stormed a police training center in the southwestern city of Quetta. More than 62 young recruits were killed, while another 120 were wounded.

The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for Monday's assault.
