There is just over one week left for South Sudanese to trade their old Sudanese pounds for the new nation's currency. Merchants are already starting to refuse the old Sudanese notes, as people scramble to get rid of the ones they have left. In Northern Bahr El Ghazal state many rural areas still haven't been visited by government officials to exchange the banknotes, leaving many worried they will be stuck with worthless money.
