Pakistan's military says airstrikes have killed at least 33 suspected terrorists in parts of North Waziristan.

An army statement says the strikes in Dattakhel and Gharlamai near the Afghan border destroyed nine "terrorist hideouts."

Pakistan has been carrying out an major military offensive in North Waziristan since June. Authorities say more than 1,100 militants have been killed. The military says it has cleared major towns of extremist networks accused of carrying out deadly attacks on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Pakistan's army also has recently started an operation against militants in the nearby border district of Khyber Agency, where authorities suspect Islamist fighters fleeing the Waziristan offensive have taken refuge. The latest round of aerial strikes in Khyber took place on Sunday and killed at least 18 militants.
