Rescuers using mechanical diggers remove rubble from the site of a collapsed building in downtown Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Mar. 29, 2013.
Police in Tanzania say at least two people are dead after a building under construction in the country's largest city, Dar es Salaam, collapsed Friday.

The 12-story building was in the final stages of construction when it came crashing down Friday morning. Witnesses say the building collapsed near an area where children were playing.

Rescuers pulled out at least 15 survivors from the rubble, but many more people are feared trapped, including construction workers.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear. Building collapses are relatively common in African nations, mainly due to poor building standards.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
