At Least 2 Dead in Tanzania Building Collapse

Police in Tanzania say at least two people were killed when a building collapsed while under construction in the country's largest city, Dar es Salaam.

The building, which was at least 12 stories high, was in the final stages of construction when it came crashing down Friday morning. Witnesses say it collapsed near an area where children were playing.

Rescuers pulled at least 17 survivors from the rubble, but more people are feared trapped, possibly including construction workers.

Video from the scene showed rescuers using their hands to remove large pieces of concrete.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear. Building collapses are relatively common in African nations, mainly due to poor building standards.
