China's newly-installed president has pledged to make great efforts to achieve what he called the "Chinese dream."

In the keynote address closing out the National People's Congress on Sunday morning, President Xi Jinping said that to realize the Chinese dream, China must take the Chinese way.

The official Xinhua news agency quoted Mr. Xi as saying he would fight corruption, and he called on people to reject hedonism and extravagance.

Before ending its session Sunday, the rubber-stamp parliament endorsed the leadership's slate of veteran technocrats to staff a Cabinet charged with overhauling China's slowing economy.
