EU Names Polish PM as Council President

<p>The European Union chose new leadership Saturday, announcing Poland&#39;s Prime Minister Donald Turk as its new council president.</p> <p>EU leaders chose Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini to succeed Catherine Ashton as head of foreign policy for the 28-nation bloc.</p> <p>Former Belgian Prime Minster Herman Van Rompuy, who currently heads the European Council, said the transition of power comes at a critical time for the EU, as it addresses the crisis of a bellicose Russia and unstable Ukraine on its eastern front.</p> <p>Turk and Mogherini will assume their new roles in November.</p>
