Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has appeared in a Cairo courtroom to once again face trial for complicity in the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011.
Saturday's proceeding is a retrial. Mubarak was given a life sentence for the charges last year, but was granted re-trial after appeals by both the prosecution and defense over procedural failings.
Mubarak appeared in court Saturday in a wheelchair. He was accompanied by his two sons, who are accused separately on corruption charges.
Security is heavy outside the courtroom, where the relatives of some of the victims have gathered.
Mubarak's retrial was scheduled to begin in April, but the judge at the time recused himself within minutes of the start of the proceedings.
