Mumbai Pharmacy Fire Kills 8

India
India

At least eight people were killed and one seriously injured when a pharmacy in India's financial capital caught fire Thursday.

The fire broke out around 6am at Wafa Medical Store in Mumbai, on the ground floor of a residential building.

According to local media, five children were among the eight killed, all of whom were sleeping when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, though multiple reports cite suspicions that a cooking gas cylinder in the store exploded.

Such accidents are not uncommon in Mumbai, which, like much of India, lacks adequate fire hydrants and extinguishers.
