HANOI, VIETNAM —
State media say rescuers have recovered the bodies of nine school children who drowned in a river in central Vietnam.
Tuoi Tre newspaper reported that the victims, all sixth-grade boys from the same class, drowned Friday after going for a swim in Tra Khuc river in central province of Quang Ngai.
A call seeking comment from provincial officials rang unanswered Friday.
Drownings are common in Vietnam, which has a comprehensive network of rivers and canals. Many children in the country are not taught how to swim.
