A South African woman has been charged with human trafficking for trying to sell her 19-month-old baby on the Internet.

The woman, 20, advertised the baby boy for sale for a mere $380 on an advertising site called Gumtree.

The police set up a sting operation to arrest the woman, according to news reports.

The woman appeared in a court in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal province Friday, but her case was adjourned until later this month to allow police to investigate further.

She remains in police custody.

The child is reported to be in good health and is in the care of social workers.

Police said Gumtree was cooperating in the case.
