Typhoon Wutip Hits Vietnam; 74 Chinese Fishermen Missing in South China Sea

Typhoon Wutip killed at least three people and wounded dozens more as it swept over Vietnam on Tuesday.

Officials also say at least 100,000 homes were damaged by the storm, which saw winds in excess of 100 kilometers per hour.

Vietnamese officials evacuated tens of thousands of people ahead of Wutip's arrival. Some power outages have been reported.

The storm, which has now been downgraded to a tropical depression, sank at least three Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea, leaving dozens of fishermen missing.

China's official news agency, Xinhua, says 74 fishermen are still unaccounted for after their boats were lost near the Paracel Islands on Sunday. It said rescuers have retrieved 14 survivors.
