Burkina Faso Closes Universities After Student Protests

Burkina Faso has ordered all universities to be closed after a string of student protests nationwide that have killed at least six people.

The government ordered the closures Monday and also cut social services provided to students.

Students began violent demonstrations last month, after the death of student Justin Zongo while he was in police custody.

The government of the west African country has said Zongo died of meningitis, but protesters insist he died because of police maltreatment.

On Saturday, the government charged two police officers with beating the student.

It was not immediately clear how long the universities would remain closed or when social services to students would be restored.
