Spanish authorities have detained two Argentine pilots who were allegedly flying with almost a ton of cocaine.

The pilots were arrested when they landed in Barcelona from the Cape Verde Islands, where the drugs were reportedly loaded on the aircraft.

The Argentine pilots worked for the plane company Medical Jet and the men are sons of former military officers.

Spanish media reports say the fathers of the pilots have been linked with people suspected of criminal activities.

Spanish newspaper, El Pais, says Gustavo Julia, one of the detained pilots, is one of the main shareholders of Medical Jet.
