Britain's Prince William has reportedly taken his fiancee Kate Middleton to visit his mother's grave in central England just days before their royal wedding.

Britain's Mirror newspaper reported Thursday the engaged couple recently traveled to Althorp, the family estate of the late Princess Diana, and laid flowers on the island that serves as her resting place.

A royal spokesman would not confirm the visit, but the prince has said in the past that he does not want his mother to "miss out" on the joy of his wedding.

William presented Kate with his mother's sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring when he proposed late last year.

The royal spokesman did confirm that Kate's parents had lunch with William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday. It was the first time they had met.

Princess Diana was divorced from William's father Prince Charles, but still a beloved public figure, when she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. Her death spurred an international outpouring of grief.
