News agencies say Kuwaiti security forces have detained some Kuwaiti soldiers suspected of plotting to attack U.S. forces in the Gulf Arab state.
Reuters news agency says about eight soldiers, including several high-ranking Kuwaiti officers, were detained a week ago and are being questioned about the alleged plot. The report says a number of non-Kuwaitis are also being questioned.
The Kuwait news agency quotes a military spokesman as acknowledging a probe is under way.
Thousands of U.S. soldiers are stationed in Kuwait, which is a main staging area for troops heading for duty in neighboring Iraq.
